Rock Hounding and Fun on the Farm

We had such a fun day yesterday!  We woke up bright and early and headed out to Topaz with some friends in our ward to collect rocks. Our first stop was to pick up some Obsidian or "Apache Tears".  Here's the girls hunting for some.
Sophia found a pretty good collection.

In this picture you can kind of see how much Obsidian there was out there. It was everywhere!  It's the little black pebbles that kind of looks like deer poop.
Here's everything she/we collected!
After collecting that stuff we went across the road to look at an abandoned mine shaft.  It was pretty crazy and cool!  There were a few drop offs on the side so we tried our best to avoid those!
Looking up into one of the old chutes.
Our little family outside the mine shaft.  Mabel was so excited to have her picture taken.  And yes I'm about to pop!
After that we went to another spot to gather some Agate beans.  They kind of looked like little pinto beans and they were everywhere too!
Then we headed to Topaz Mountain to collect some Topaz.
We actually ended up looking in a big field across from the mountain where a bunch of it had washed down.  It was really fun and kind of hard to find.  The sun had to be out so that we could see it sparkle find where it was.
We didn't find too much but we brought home a little bit of a collection.

She thought this rock was cool and wanted a picture by it.  She said it looked like a big animal print.
After that the rest of our group headed up to the mountain to find some bigger pieces but we left to head down to Flowell to see Doug's friend and co-worker at his farm.

The girls were totally in heaven!  They thought the farm was the best place they'd ever been to!  The best part was that they had these kittens!  Sophia could not get enough of them and wanted to bring one home.
Mabel liked them too even though they were a little "poky" (she got a little scratch from one of them).
Lilly wasn't a huge fan of the kittens and preferred to sit on a hay bale and look at the cows.
Mabel loved doing the same thing.
He took us on a little tour of the farm and the girls thought it was fun to see all the tractors.
Mabel really wanted to to feed the cows some hay but was a little hesitant to get any closer than this.

The wheels were huge!

Doug's friend was nice enough to take them on a tractor ride. They thought it was the best thing ever!  Doug even got to drive for a minute and had a pretty good time too.
Overall they're pretty sure living on a farm is the coolest thing ever.  They wouldn't stop talking about it the whole way home.

Here's one last picture of everything we collected.  The agate beans are at the top, the topaz is in the middle and the obsidian is at the bottom.  We seriously had such a fun time and can't wait to go out there again!
