Europe Trip Part 4! (Switzerland day 2 - Father's Day and My Birthday)

Our second day in Switzerland started in Bern.  We went to see the temple
 and church nearby.
Then we explored the city a little.  This was the Parliament building (or something.  Maybe it was a bank. JK).
We also saw where Albert Einstein lived for a little bit.
This city was so beautiful and full of history.  It was amazing.  All the houses (and their gardens) were so beautiful too!! I was ready to move there!
A beautiful cathedral we came across.
Doug loved the facade on the outside that showed half of the people burning in Hell.  It was quite graphic!
More of the beautiful city.
The Bern bears were everywhere!
We stopped to watch this clock put on a little show on the hour.  The little thing on the bottom right would ring some bells and the gold guy in the tower at the top would ring a big bell for each hour.
Bern is apparently famous for it's fountains.  We loved coming across them.
We also found the real Bern bears! They were a little sleepy apparently.
 Another shot of the cathedral.
Can we have moment of silence for the chocolate from Laderach?  That white chocolate one is my absolute favorite!
and a moment of silence for the bread and cheese of Europe?  This sandwich was amazing!!
After our adventure in Bern we headed to Montreaux to see a 800 year old castle.  It was sitting on Lake Geneva in the french part of Switzerland.  France is on the other side of the lake.  It was crazy to start the day with everyone around us speaking German and finish it with everyone speaking French. The castle was absolutely amazing.  And again the clouds were incredible!! We only took about 1,000 pictures of the outside.
I mean come on!! Does it get any prettier than that?!
And then a boat came along and we were all like "forget about it.  It doesn't get any better than that".
The inside of the castle did not disappoint either!! It was amazing to me to think of all these "historic" places in America and then realize that they are babies compared to all of Europe!! This castle has been around for centuries!! Our country is only 2 centuries old!
Couldn't resist a picture of these. Even if they're gross.
This was in the prison.  Apparently Lord Byron spent some time there.

After an incredible time at the castle we headed to Lausanne for some exploring and to see the Olympic museum.  I guess Lausanne is where the International Olympic Committee is located.
We didn't have much time to spend there but we still greatly enjoyed it.  This room had all the torches from all the olympics.
We also saw some costumes from the opening ceremonies
and some athlete attire including Keri Strugg's uniform.
They also had all the medals on display.  These were from the first games
 and Salt Lake!
Doug won the gold medal for being a dad since it was Father's day.
After the museum we explored the city a little.  We saw this boat and thought our kids would love it.
Then we headed back to Jeff and Lexie's for a delicious birthday dinner. We talked them into having Raclette and it was amazing! Who doesn't love melted cheese over meat, potatoes and vegetables!?
Doug gave me some notes the kids made for me.

As well as this awesome picture.
And Lexie made this amazing chocolate torte.  It was soooooooo good!!!
It was the perfect birthday and most likely the best one I'll ever have!!
