Europe Trip Part 5! (Switzerland days 3 & 4)

The third day we were in Switzerland we took a train to Interlaken and the Jungfrau region to do some hiking. This picture is not very flattering but made me laugh.  I promise I was happy to be there!! This was on the funicular ride to the top of a mountain to look down over the lakes.
More funicular pictures.  That thing was steep!!
View from the top.  It was amazing!!
 Again with the flowers...
One of the lakes
 and the other.
 noted.
This was probably my favorite thing that we saw/did on the whole trip.  It was soooooooo gorgeous!!!

I still couldn't get over how green/blue the water was!!
After seeing the lakes we headed to the Jungfrau region to do some hiking.  So pretty!!
This was like a scene straight out of Heidi! The cows even had cowbells!! I couldn't believe it!!
 My and the Jungfrau.
We passed so many gorgeous rivers and waterfalls on the hike.  It was incredible.
 More of the cows.

 More scenery

The peak on the far left that you can barely see is called the Igur.  The one in the middle is the Munc and the one on the right is the Jungfrau (young lady).  Apparently the Munk is protecting the young lady from the ogre (Igur).
 More waterfalls.
We passed through this darling little town on our hike too.  I loved all the swiss chalets!
I think this was the Jungfrau behind us. The whole time we were on this hike Doug kept saying "are we in heaven?"  He was pretty happy.  Hands down one of the prettiest places in the world that we've ever been in!!
We took a big tram thing to the bottom of the mountain.
Then we took a train to Lauterbrunnen to see if we could find some of Doug's ancestors grave.
This area was sooooo beautiful!!! We had a hard time imagining how they could have left it to come to Utah! I think most of them settled in Midway/Heber so at least it was a prettier part of Utah!
We had to document Doug and Jeffy matching that day.
We found a church with a cemetery next to it so we looked around a little bit to see if we could find some of their graves.
It was such a cool cemetery!!  We didn't have any luck finding their graves but it was still really neat to see!! They all had the same names but the graves were too recent (late 1800's/early 1900's and we were looking for mid 1800's.
We then took a train back to Zurich and had a delicious schnitzel sandwich and curry wurst.
We then walked around Zurich a little more and fed the swans and ducks.
That wooden structure in the background is sitting on the lake and they play movies there occasionally.
I loved all the fountains in Switzerland!! The best part was that you could fill your waterbottles in them and the water was so cold and refreshing!!
The last day we were in Switzerland Doug and I went to Lucerne to do some exploring on our own.  It was such a beautiful city and we loved all the bridges.
This was the Mill bride I think.
We started the day by going to this museum.  Unfortunately we couldn't take any pictures but it was an amazing museum!! It had so many Picasso's and Dali's.  Probably the best ones we saw on the whole trip.
Me by the river that flows into Lake Lucerne.
I loved all the artwork in the covered bridges.  A lot of it had skeletons in it and was kind of creepy but cool nonetheless!
We also found the Lucerne lion which was kind of cool.
We went to this weird glacier museum that was right by the lion and it had this mirror maze in it that was built around the turn of the century or something for a world fair.  It was kind of crazy but a total blast.  We eventually made our way out but it was trippy!
 Lake Lucerne
 Walking across the Chapel Bridge
Part of this bridge burned a few years ago.  It was sad to see the charred remains.
Part of the chapel bridge from the outside.  Supposedly it's the longest covered bridge in Europe.
When we got back to Zurich we did a little more exploring with Lexie.
One of the cathedrals had all these paintings in a courtyard that told the story of how Zurich was founded.  Or something like that.
On the other side of these windows is some amazing stained glass windows done by Marc Chagal. They were incredible.  I think they were one of Doug's favorite things we saw on the whole trip.
We weren't allowed to take pictures so I stole this one from the internet.
Doug hiked the stairs to the top of the cathedral to get a better view but I said no thanks.  He took some pictures for me though and it looked amazing!
Thank you for the good times Switzerland and Jeff and Lexie!! Definitely our favorite country of the whole trip!
