A few good laughs

Even though it kills to laugh I came across these funny things in the past few days and had to pass them along. The first one is from Rachael Ray. I don't know if any of you saw Joan Rivers on her show yesterday but she was hysterical. I love what she said about Brangelina and the Slumdogs kids. It definitely made me laugh!

Second my brother (who I now share a close connection with being that we are the only un-appended folks in our family - and who extended a membership offer to me to join the club who's motto is "No Appendix? No Problem" and that includes a button (although I wish it were a bumper sticker) that reads "Appendix-free Since 2009" all for the low price of $1000). Funny bro. Anyway, he sent this site that I thought was hilarious. These are a few of my favorites. Sorry they're small. Check the site to see what they say.

Did you have a favorite from the site? I'm sure you checked it. Anyway, have a happy Friday!

P.S. My bishop and his cute wife just stopped by with a plate of cookies so my Friday definitely just got happier!

Let's give em (or me) something to blog about

Well I had quite the day yesterday (and I guess I'm looking forward to quite the few weeks!). Anyway, I'm just going to jump right into it without too much info. I'm also going to add a disclamer that some of this might not make too much sense because I'm loving my percocet a little too much right now. (I even wrote a poem for my morphine last night. It went like this "Oh sweet morphine, you can be mean, cause you make me dizzy but you also make me warm and fuzzy - how's that for some rhymin'?)
Moving on, I've been having some digestive issues on and off for the past few months but haven't thought too much about it. I had an endoscopy a few weeks ago thinking it was an ulcer but it wasn't. Anyway, I had severe pain in my lower right abdomen Monday night but I didn't think too much of it thinking that my MD would blow it off again. I decided to go in on Tuesday anyway because it was right where my appendix is and I know that can be dangerous and so I wanted to be safe and not sorry.
I dropped Sophia off at preschool and then took Lilly with me to the appointment. My MD was pretty sure that it was appendicitis and told me to find someone to watch my baby and get to the hospital for a CT scan. I asked him if I could go tomorrow or the next day but he was adament that I went right then. I called Doug and picked him up from work so that he could go with me. He stayed for a little while and then took Lilly to get Sophia from preschool and then took them to my friends house (thanks again Erin!!!!!) and went back to work. I stayed behind to drink 6 oz of nasty liquid every 10 minutes for an hour. If you've never had a CT scan, I don't recommend it because of the drink alone. Anyway, I then had to wait about an hour so that the liquid could get down low enough so they could get a good shot of my appendix. After the scan the tech told me I could go and that my MD would call with the results. I called my mom for a ride and while I was going to meet her my MD called and told me not to leave but to get straight to the ER because I had appendicitis and that they'd be calling a surgeon. That was unexpected!
Apparently they treat appendicitis as a medical emergency because you can be in serious trouble if it ruptures. They even took me back before all the people who were in wheelchairs or doubled over and even before the girl in a blood soaked shirt with a giant bandage on her head. They got me started on an IV and did the surgery a few hours later. I kept asking if I'd be able to leave that night (I had VT scheduled - thanks again for taking care of that Kriste!) and I really didn't think that it was that big of deal. They informed me I had to stay overnight and that I could possibly leave the next day (at the earliest).
So Doug came back with the kids and then my mom took the kids home and Doug stayed for the surgery. He then picked the kids up and took them home. He said on the way home he explained the situation to Sophia and she thought about it for awhile and then asked, "will mom still be able to open fruit snacks?" Thanks for the concern Sophs. Way to keep things in perspective. She also asked my mom if I'd be coming home with a baby this time. My mom came down today (thanks again mom!) to watch them so Doug could work for a few hours. Doug came by to visit and then said he'd pick me up and bring me home when I was ready. He said that Sophia really wants me home so that we can be a family again (I'd only been gone about 12 hours by that point. Settle down kid!) Anyway, after some yummy full liquid meals and a few naps today I was able to come home this afternoon. I'm looking forward to the next few days on the couch and a few more weeks of recovery. The surgeon did mention that my appendix was enlarged but not gangrenous or ruptured but that it I had waited 3-5 more days it may have gotten to that point. It made me feel better that I got right on it after hearing that. Thanks to everyone who has offered to help and who will help. I appreciate it more than you'll ever know! Hope you're all doing better than me and that you'll all be able to hang on to your appendices awhile longer. (I was one of three appendectomies (or lap appy's) going on last night so I'm pretty sure it's going around. Watch out!)
P.S. I'm sorry but you cute girls who entered my giveaway may be waiting a little while longer for your prizes. Sorry! I did say it would be some time this year though so I don't feel too bad.

Lissa it's your Birthday!

My awesome sis Melis is celebrating her birthday today and so this one's for her! She always does these posts for others on their special day so now it's her turn. Here's 10 things I love about Melissa:

1. She was the middle sister (in a group of 3 sisters that came in a row) and put up with a lot from both sides. As far as I can tell, she loves both her sisters equally and I'm so grateful for the relationship I have with her. She was definitely always the peacemaker and rarely took sides. She also took a lot of pictures with me when we were younger. Some were definitely better that others. This picture was post wisdom teeth for me and post dentist visit for her. What possessed us to ever take this picture? I think I took it for a certain missionary...good thing he still married me!
Shake those maraccas sista! I love the hot pink knee highs too. I'm pretty sure she taught me everything I know about fashion and color coordinating. 2. She is very brave. I don't know too many other people that would sit that close to a real tiger! She was always brave when I needed her to be and would comfort me when I was scared. I remember thinking that I was going to be homesick when I went to girls camp but I felt better knowing that she would be there with me.
3. She won the science fair with me in Lower School. We sure had some great bonding moments with those mice. (Love the Simpson's T-shirt by the way).
4. She's very creative and always sends the cutest homemade cards. I love having a birthday or celebrating a holiday because I know it will include a note from her.

5. She followed in her dad's footsteps and has a degree in Psychology. She's currently working toward a Master's Degree in Family Financial Planning (I think). She is such a good example to me of being an incredible student. I'm so proud of her for pursuing further education. Spending all that time in an attractive uniform paid off!
6. She met her cute husband Brandon at the good ole BYU Bookstore in the candy department. It was fun when they got caught (more than once) catching a smooch in the TZ cooler. One of her first dates with Brandon and my first date with Doug was to a Bookstore event. Thanks for the hook ups Bookstore. (I need a picture of that by the way sis.)
7. She is a tremendous mother to her 2 cutest boys! I know that I will never be the mom that she is. Thanks for your example on that one! Thanks for all your advice and for swapping mom stories with me too.
8. She's an amazing young woman leader and choir director. She has always done an incredible job in whatever calling she's held and I know her current callings are no exception. I love hearing about her latest YW events and all the work she puts into everything. I'm sure her Young Women (and ward choir) would echo my sentiments here.

9. She lives in the coolest city in the US (next to P-town of course) - Stillwater, OK. We had such a fun time visiting her on our crazy Summer 07 trip and everything was definitely OK. It was fun to learn that Stillwater is home to many greats (Sonic, Garth Brooks, Eskomo Joes', OSU Cowboys, etc.). Here's her cute family before they moved there. That sweet boy in her arms will soon be 6 years old! I can't believe she's lived there that long.
10. I love how much she likes to have fun! She loves playing games, watching movies, reading books, making crafts, and always has a fabulous time doing it. I love hearing about the latest book she read or movie she saw. I only wish she lived closer so that I could enjoy these fun things with her. Here she is enjoying one of her fun toys many Christmases ago. I love the multicolored nails. Way to go with that one!

Happy Birthday sis! I hope it's great cause you deserve it!

Giveaway

Before I talk about the giveaway, my friend Nancy (the one who made Lilly's amazing birthday cake) and I got together today today to recreat this cake for Valentines day. We had such a blast! I forgot to take a shot of mine before I took it to Doug and work but let's pretend that it looked like the one pictured below. The cake balls were a lot of fun to make and working with fondant for the first time was an experience. Let's just say Nancy's amazing. Thanks again!

Now on to the giveaway. My friend Amy had this on her blog and I thought it looked like fun. I love stuff like this!

The first FIVE people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For you. This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
1- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
2- What I create will be just for you.
3- It'll be done this year. (might be a little while)
4- You have no clue what it's going to be.It may be a story. It may be a joke book, autographed picture of myself, handmade bag, or a little invention of my own! I may create you a blog header or paint something for you with my food. I may bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows?
5- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange. Believe me... it may blow your mind!
The catch? Oh, the catch is that you must re post this on your blog and offer the same to the first 5 people who do the same on your blog. The first 5 people to do so and leave a comment telling me they did win a FAB-U-LOUS homemade gift by me! Oh, and be sure to post a picture of what you win when you get it! Sounds like fun, right? So, let's play!

Again?

I can't believe I did it again. I must really be on a lucky streak. I guess it eventually pays off to enter all these contests. Right now she's doing a fun contest for some really cute shoes. Such a fun website!

I made some really cute hairbows with felt and pinking shears (they were layered colors and shapes and adorable) but my dumb camera broke so I can't post any pictures. Sophia also got her cute lion costume for the Wizard of Oz but I can't post a picture of that either. Hope you all have a happy Wednesday!

Hooray I won!

I guess if you enter enough you'll eventually win. My sister introduced my to this blog and so I've been entering the contests lately. I'm hesitant to share it with people because she gives away the cutest things and I don't want to lower my chances. Anyway, I finally won and I'm way excited about my prize. The company's website is so cute! I can't decide what to get. Check it out and let me know if you have a favorite. I really like the dandelions but I'm not sure where I could put them. Any thoughts?

Here's a Fabulous Friday Foto for you. Sophia found grandpa/grandma's glasses in the Suburban and had a great time wearing them around. Silly girl. She's always good for a laugh!

Another Cute One

Have any of you seen this cute site? I'm pretty much in love with everything I've seen on their site. I definitely want their cookbook. I loved their little spice drawer. Too bad I'm just not that organized and I'm not sure that I ever will be. Enjoy!
