The next day in Seattle was our museum day. In the morning we stopped at this bakery which according to Buzz Feed, is one of the top 25 in the world you need to see. It was nice and delicious but I don't know if I'd go that far. JK.
The first museum we went to was the EMP Museum. I think it stand for experience music project or something. It was pretty crazy and probably one of the best museums we've ever been to. They had an exhibit on fear and horror movies which was kind of cool.
Me next to the manuscript of Dracula or Frankenstein. I can't remember.
Practicing our scariest screams.
Doug with a light saber.
There was also a Sci-Fi exhibit that had Neo's costume from the Matrix and a bunch of stuff from Star Trek and Dr. Who.
and this from Labyrinth
And Yoda's cane and amulet
And the wicked witch's hat.
There was also a huge music section in this museum. There was a big Nirvana exhibit (they're from the area along with a million other bands). I took this picture of one of their set lists because the third song cracked me up.
This structure was kind of cool. Some of the guitars were even playing. Nuts.
This one is for my sister Eliza. It's one of the puppets from the Dark Crystal.
Me by Kurt Cobain's caridgan and guitar.
And terrible picture of me by some Macklemore stuff. They're also from the area. There was also a huge Jimi Hendrix exhibit but apparently we didn't take any pictures...
It was seriously the coolest museum ever. This is what it looked like from the outside. The monorail went right through it.
Then we walked a million miles to lunch at another restaurant we looked up before we left. It was called Lunchbox Laboratory. The food was pretty delicious but the service was horrible. We had Guachos Tachos (or something like that) with devil's tears ketchup. It was pretty good. This restaurant was kind of by Amazon.com headquarters so that was kind of fun to see too.
After lunch we went to the Pacific Science center. It was pretty cool and had these fun interactive exhibits like this anti-gravity mirror.
And me in my awesome computer generated disguise.
The science part of the museum was awesome. Once again, our kids would have loved it. Here I am by a giant slice of a Douglas.
The butterfly pavilion.
And some cute graffiti we saw. How precious.
This was outside the science center. These things were crazy!! If you bumped them (which was encouraged) they made these crazy almost spooky howling noises. It was crazy.
At the end of the day we went to the Chihuly Gardens and Glass. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. That's all I can say about that!! This was when you first walked in.
Then there was this whole south-west room inspired by woven baskets and stuff. Incredible.
Doug by an octopus sculpture. I thought the octopus was bronze but the whole entire sculpture (including the bowl it's sitting on) was glass.
Part of a ceiling that was entirely made of glass.
I loved the reflection these made.
Two really cool boats full of glass figures.
I didn't know this but Chihuly doesn't actually make most of his work. He had an accident in the 70's and is blind in one eye. He designs it all and oversees the production but doesn't really make any of it. After his accident he started painting and doing other artwork. He would burn some of the paint with a torch to get a cool effect. This is some of it and obviously some inspiration for his glass.
An amazing white chandelier
More chandeliers outside.
This was all in the garden. Absolutely amazing.
There was a huge arboretum with this giant structure running through it. Crazy.
These were cool too. We were very grateful we did not have our kids with us here. There were some very miniature versions of these for sale in the gift shop for about $7000 a piece. Yikes!
More of his artwork
Arboretum selfie!
His signature framed on the wall.
And more from outside.
We walked around the space needle a little and discovered that if you download the space needle app and take pictures by these circles they have spread around they look like this.
Pretty funny.
The last day we were there we were pretty worn out. We went back to the market for a little bit but it was so crowded that we didn't stay long. We did see this funny shirt though.
They're pretty focused on getting people to start their own projects and things that will make a difference that they can donate too. There was stuff everywhere saying that they don't want donations. They have plenty of money. They want you to start something that will make a difference. Kind of a cool concept.
Then we said "peace out Seattle" and headed to the airport for home!
I missed my kids like crazy and was thankful for Snapchat and my nephew who sent lots of them!
When we got to the airport we were greeted by this cute face. I missed him!!!
